RADIO
MUSEUM EXPERIENCE
at
Cork City Gaol
6CK - the Cork Broadcasting
Station was officially opened on April
25th 1927 by the then Minister for Posts & Telegraphs,
Bandon-born
J.J. Walsh T.D.

The Radio Broadcasting Studio
was situated in the unlikely setting of the former
Cork City Gaol Governor's House! The Gaol had closed
as a prison in 1923 and was, more or less, forgotten about until
the Civil Servants charged with responsibility for finding a suitable
building, on a height, within a secure area which could cater for the
building of a mast, remembered the former gaol.
